The Yakovlev Yak-38 only saw a few missions during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Due to its limited range, lack of onboard radar and temperamental engines, the fighter aircraft was rarely used by the Soviet Navy anyway. It was even called the Soviets' failed attempt at building a Harrier.
