The TGV PSE (Paris Sud-Est) was the first TGV service to operate between Paris and Lyon in 1981. It was also the first electric multiple unit of the SNCF. At the time, it was the fastest train in the world. It consisted of two power cars and eight passenger carriages, of which the two cars adjacent to the power cars had a motorized bogie. The train wore its striking orange, gray and white livery until 2001. The train was originally designed for a travel speed of 270 km/h, but this was later increased to 300 km/h. More powerful brakes were also installed. In addition to technical improvements, the train also underwent a number of renovations to its interior. For example, it was given more comfortable seats, power sockets and space for wheelchairs, bicycles and luggage. Only four of the trains originally built by Alstom and Francorail-MTE between 1978 and 1988 have survived, two of which are now preserved at the Cité du Train. Number 61, named after the commune of Fontainebleau in France, was a dual-voltage example built in 1982. All units were withdrawn from service in 2019 when they were replaced by the TGV POS (Paris–Eastern France–Southern Germany).
