Affectionately known as Tante Ju, the Junkers Ju 52 was originally born as a single-engine aircraft, but then went into production in 1931 as a three-engine version with more power. During the war it was mainly used as a troop and cargo transport - it could carry up to 18 fully equipped soldiers or 12 stretchers. It was also used to some extent as a bomber. It is perhaps best known for its use in Guernica in the Spanish Civil War. In peacetime, however, it was a reliable passenger and cargo aircraft. Almost 5,000 were made by 1952 - after World War II, production in Germany ceased, taking place instead in France and Spain. While some surviving aircraft are still airworthy, the majority can now be found in museums around the world.
I developed this model in the summer of 2023, but I have wanted to tackle it for a long time because I consider the Junkers Ju 52 both an icon and an important part of aviation history.
