Only 210 of these small shunting locomotives, designated "Class Y 7100", were built. Between 1958 and 1962 they were mainly restricted to freight service at freight stations, but were occasionally used for shorter distances in front of passenger trains. The Y 7100, nicknamed "Yo-yo" because of its ability to change direction quickly, is a standard gauge diesel locomotive with hydraulic drive. The Cité du Train has two multi-colored examples in its collection, visually based on the facade of the building. The original color scheme was green with yellow stripes, vermilion buffer beams and a black chassis; in the 1960s this changed to Celtic green with daffodil yellow accents and a slate gray chassis.
