Found only on a handful of tiny islands in the southern Atlantic and Indian Oceans, the northern rockhopper penguin (also called Moseley's penguin) is one of the smallest of the crested penguins.
Research suggests that the northern rockhopper penguin is actually a separate species from the southern rockhopper penguin, which differs from its cousin morphologically, vocally and genetically.
These little penguins are currently listed as an endangered species, mainly due to climate change and overfishing. They are superior swimmers and strong jumpers. Their diet consists of krill and other crustaceans, squid and small fish.
