Northern cardinal – kit from LEGO® bricks

The northern cardinal is very popular in its American homeland. While it used to be allowed to be kept as a pet, its bright red plumage - albeit only in the males - can now only be admired in the wild.

In addition, the beautiful songbird species with the striking crest and the distinctive mask – admittedly only in the males – is the state bird in seven US states and adorns coats of arms and postage stamps.

Catching or killing a northern cardinal has been a punishable offence since 1918. In addition, the Virginia nightingale can look after itself quite well by spreading itself happily. Its home now extends from the central and eastern states of the USA to the south through Mexico and Belize. In the north, it has conquered southeastern Canada. The northern cardinal likes to live in open areas, but is increasingly showing a preference for populated areas.
