The Soviet MiG-29 fighter aircraft was a huge success. Developed by Mikoyan-Gurevich in the 1970s during the Cold War, more than 1,600 aircraft were produced for domestic use and sold to around 30 nations.
The MiG-29 was able to keep up with its American counterparts, and was even superior to them in some respects. It was extremely agile and fast. Its greatest special feature was that it could "stand" on its own thrust jet, at least for a short time: the so-called cobra maneuver.
Over the years, improvements and modernizations have been made time and again. This means that the multi-role combat aircraft has remained up to date and is still being built today.
