The gangster couple Bonnie and Clyde already appreciated the advantages of the Ford V8 in the sporty version. The car, built from 1932 onwards, was fast and reliable - a great advantage when you are being pursued by the police. Clyde Barrow is even said to have written a thank you note to Henry Ford before he and his lover were finally caught in 1934. The car was not to blame, it too was riddled with official bullets. Bonnie and Clyde had been lured into an ambush.

But ordinary people didn't just have to dream about the eight-cylinder V-engine. The Ford Motor Company targeted the mass market with its new model and broke into normal price segments. With just $490 in cash, you could buy a coupe. This sum is roughly equivalent to today's inflation-adjusted $8,432. Almost 200,000 examples of the V8 rolled off the assembly line in various versions between 1932 and 1940. Individual examples are still preserved and are even available - at very different prices, of course.
