No, there was no doctor involved here – the Fokker Dr.1 takes its name from the word "triplane". In fact, the aircraft has three wings placed one above the other. The struts on the outer wing were not initially planned and served to prevent vibrations.
With 110 hp, the triplane, produced in modest numbers of 420 units between 1917 and 1918, was quite slow. The thick wing profile combined with low weight gave it unrivalled maneuverability at the time.
The version chosen by Peter Blackert appears in the colors of the famous pilot, the "Red Baron". Baron Manfred von Richthofen achieved 19 of 80 aerial victories as a fighter pilot in the First World War in a Fokker Dr.1; he also died in such a machine in 1918.
