The Datsun 240Z, also known as the Nissan Fairlady in its home country, was not the first Japanese sports car. However, with almost 500,000 Z and ZX models produced, it was the most successful vehicle export from the land of the rising sun in the early 1970s.
The two-seater station wagon coupé was equipped with a 2.4-litre engine and 154 hp for export. The sporty speedster was not available in Germany until 1973 and was sold exactly 303 times at a price of 17,600 DM.
In the same year, Nissan presented the successor to the 240Z at the Tokyo Motor Show: the 260Z. Due to the increasingly strict emissions regulations in the main market, the USA, the displacement was increased from 2.4 to 2.6 liters. Two years later, the 280Z saw a further increase in displacement, but only for the American market.
