In 1956, the French aircraft manufacturer Dassault achieved a major breakthrough: the Mirage was allowed to take its first flight. Its further development was rapid in the truest sense of the word, because just a few years later it was the first European aircraft to reach a speed of more than Mach 2.
The fighter aircraft was built in various variants and also successfully exported. The variant presented here is a Mirage IIIO, manufactured under license by the Australian Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation in an edition of 114 aircraft.
The successful French model was powered by a SNECMA Atar 09C turbojet engine with afterburner, which was under development at the same time as the Mirage IIIA test aircraft.
