The Albatros DV was the last development stage of the Albatros D family and was used at the end of the First World War. Some design errors had been corrected, others remained. Finally, the D.Va had a slightly more powerful engine to compensate for the higher weight of the newer type.
Almost 2,500 combat aircraft of this type were built by the Albatros aircraft factory in Johannisthal (part of Berlin-Köpenick since 1920) for the air force of the German Reich. The aircraft were flown by well-known fighter pilots such as the "Red Baron" Manfred von Richthofen and Ernst Udet.
Two examples of the Albatros D.Va have been preserved and are on display in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington and the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
